The Gresham Flyers

2011 News

Hello 2011, Goodbye Gresham Flyers

The new year has arrived, and seven years to the day of our first ever rehearsal, we're sorry to say we've decided to call it a day. Don't worry, we all still love each other, but there seems to be less and less demand for our own anarchic brand of indie-rock so we're jumping ship now. We actually made this decision at the end of 2009, giving ourselves a year to see if things got better. They didn't. We played five great gigs (including a career high with The Features), recorded a whole new album and put out a new EP and a Christmas song, but we still felt that enough is enough.

Thus, for now, The Gresham Flyers are no more. We're not sad, so you shouldn't be. Waz is turning his Chandler D Obelisk side-project into a proper one-man band. Thom & Sharon have joined A Fine Day For Sailing. James has a reunited Roger's Trout Farm to drum for, as well as his own Horses Of Instruction. Martin is considering his options, as they say. But we'll still get together for a pint, and probably play a farewell gig, and we'll tell you all about it when we book it. We're also looking to finish off the tracks we'd earmarked for our last album (whether we release it is another matter), and have two cover versions with label-instigated tribute albums coming out soon.

In the meantime, we'd like to thank everyone for seven years of brill times, especially our ex-members Andrew, Dan, Kerry & Jess, Rachael at Cherryade for much support, plus everyone we played for and played with. Be good, and love each other.

John, Sharon, Martin, James & Thom xxx
